Denise Buisman Pilger is a visual artist who creates contemporary mixed media art work. Her work reflects her love of photography, painting and travel.  Inspired by her globe-trotting experiences, which have been numerous and frequent, she creates cityscapes that are recognizable, yet somehow surreal.  Her works are a pastiche of architectural elements and city life, arranged at unusual angles, irregular scale and not necessarily in their true-to-life configuration.

Working in digital photo manipulation, image transfer, collage, and acrylics, Denise indulges her love of texture, layering and paper mâché to create canvases that are graphic, contemporary and yet nostalgic.  She occasionally integrates text in her work, some of which are black and white with minimalist color accents, while others abound with color - her visual vocabulary always unique and always authentic.

Living and working in Montreal, Quebec, Denise has spent the past five years traveling and residing in various North American cities, exhibiting her work along the way.  Originally from the Netherlands, she has a Bachelor of Arts in Illustration from Willem de Kooning Academy of Arts in Rotterdam.  For many years, she earned her living in graphic design and art direction for print media, both in Europe and in North America.

Her current on-going series, TravelIng the World, continues to nourish and show Denise’s unique perspective on the world she travels.
